holy bektrek

coron was a whole lotta improvement on my holy week last year, which i spent at home, eating instant food. i have to say, the boatmen-prepared lunches we had at coron made my vacation very, very happy. i love food. and eating with friends on a boat, anchored by the beach? that's like three of my greatest loves right there: friends, food, beach.

it was the perfectly paced vacation, our holy bektrek coron getaway, i think. friday, we got there, walked around, ate lunch and napped. after the sun stopped being painful to the skin, at around 3pm, we trooped out to look for souvenirs. the souvenirs there are rather pricey, at least at this big shop we were pointed to see. then we proceeded to climb to the top of mt. tapyas. not an easy climb, i tell you. or maybe it's just me and my unfit lungs. we, or rather our be-camera-ed friends, took pictures. unfortunately for me, i'm a half-tourist: i don't have a camera :c on the way, we met two kids, refreshments vendors/tour guides really, who accompanied us to the top, telling us stories about the mountains and the sites to see. they were also really nice about taking our pictures.

those kids had me thinking what it would be like for me if i lived there, a beautiful place teeming with both local and international tourists. maybe i wouldn't feel like fleeing to university asap. maybe i'd be fitter, what with all the beach swimming i'd probably grown up doing, haha.

anyway. after the knee-shaking climb, we headed to maquinit hot spring, which was just perfect for our tired muscles. the next morning, april 3, 2010, day 1 of our tour, holds the record for being the most physical day of my life. swimming, snorkeling, some trekking, and some more swimming from when our tours with DIY Coron began at 8am until sunset. we visited siete pecados, kayangan lake (my favorite!), 91 beach, cyc island, twin lagoon and barracuda lake.

i always thought vacations are not complete without drunken nights. i was wrong. by the time we got back to our quarters, we were too exhausted to even think past dinner. we went to bed after a rather awkward late dinner with a tour-mate. anyway.

day 2 was more relaxed. since our destinations were farther, sunday was mostly spent on the boat. snorkeling and beach bumming on coron's best spots - we wished we could've stayed longer in malcapuya.

coron, i'm so going to see you again. when i'm rich and with a good camera. :)
